Everyone else has a web site these days, so I figured, why not them, too?
Dogs, or Vultures?
I'll mainly use this site to post lots of favorite pictures of my Fur Babies and Friends. I'll try to pick out the most flattering ones, but no guarantees!
I'm also going to use this web site to express myself. I'll have a page with my opinions and others on it, and another page where I'll put Helpful tips and information. I might also include a page that has some of my own original writing or artwork.
I'll update this site frequently, so make sure to check back often.
I haven't posted about this before, because it was pretty touch and go, and I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up or bring anyone down........
Last June I got 2 new additions, (some may remember this story) they were tossed out in a field while in a glass aquarium, they were all cut up and left to die. A friend of mine was walking her dog she noticed that her dog was freaking out on a near by bush.... Low and behold, the 2 strangest looking critters anyone could have imagined popped out, and as if to say "please help us" they started towards her. She was horrified to say the least. Since all the people who know me personally, call me Dr. Doolittle, she knew who to call. I rushed to the scene. I had no idea what they were, I mustered up all my courage and picked the first one up and tossed it into a cooler, (that is all I had to put them in) then the second...... I promptly got out the hand sanitizer and went to town (up to my elbows). With the strange creatures in a cooler in my back seat I drove home. I got home and promptly got on the internet and searched and searched until I finally found what I was looking for. I had no idea what these things ate or how to care for them, or if the reason that they were bald was some sorta contagious disease, or if I was going to go bald next......
It turned out that I had 2 double rexed hairless Ratties. The Ratties were full of cuts and scrapes and malnourished. I knew I had to clean their wounds and feed them and get them in a proper shelter. So once again I had to touch the strange and semi horrifying creatures, I washed them with an anti bacterial soap and applied Neosporin. I had no cash, was out of checks and my visa card was maxed out, I just got home from an out of town wedding that same day. It was after 6pm and the only option I had was to head to the nearest pawn shop and pawn some jewelry. I got $150 went to pet smart and got 2 glass aquariums and 2 water bottles and 2 bags of soft bedding and rat food and yogurt drops. The reason I got 2 of everything is because one of the ratties had engorged teats. I didn't want any babies or if she was going to have babies they would need to be separated. Later on I found out that they were both girls. I named them Budah BigglesWorth and Anora MiniMe (Anora is short for anorexia, she was so skinny!) Anora had babies out in the wild and we never found them and also there must be a male somewhere (the saddest thing)
Anyhow, I wasn't sure that they were going to even live, but they did and all was well, until a couple of weeks ago, Anora hurt her eye really bad while I was on my last ski trip and when I got home she had an infection that smelled really bad and her eye was oozing and swollen to an enormous size. I took her to the vet and we attempted to clean it up, but Anora wasn't having any of that! The vet gave me eye drops and amoxicillian, I was to give her eye drops every 2 hours and the amoxicillian 2x/day. I had to bring her back every other day to see the DVM. Anora quit eating and has lost so much weight, and then got the runs from the amoxicillian. I had to take her off the Amoxicillian and continue the drops every 2 hours, I missed my X-mass party at work, I took time off work and my purse was stolen from my car when I was unable to lock it up while trying to get my sick rattie in the house (it was only 40 degrees out that day) I haven't been to the bank in a couple of weeks and had over $700 in my purse, all my X-mass money and money for some bills too. I got my purse back from a nice lady that found it in her yard but no money
Anora started to eat really good again a couple of days ago and all the oozing stopped now the swelling is gone, she punctured her eye and it is slowly dying, she saw the vet today and the vet does not think she will need surgery as long as I can keep using the drops and Anora is doing really well and adjusting to being blind on one side better than expected. I will be making her and Budah a celebration chocolate chip peanut butter pancake (their favorite thing) I love my ratties and am so thank full for them, one less thing I am ignorant about. They are so smart and loving, they are so amazing! I would have continued throughout my life being terrified of rats if not for them. Just thought I'd share.......Anora is doing so much better. I am also thankful to my DVM's too, I wasn't charged for any of the visits just the meds. The Pikes Peak Veterinary Clinic here in Colorado Springs.
I'll add an entry whenever I make an update to my web site. Where appropriate, I'll include a link to the change.
